Though Zombies of Mass Destruction is based on a standard premise of a small town being overrun by a sudden zombie plague it applies a more humorous approach to the genre. Though it never reaches the same comedy level as Shaun of Dead it still has a lot of great qualities if you like zombie movies and don’t like lower budget productions with overly dramatic acting.
The script however just feels flat and is basically just a setup to support the survival horror setting with some comic scenes following the craziness of the survivors struggling to maintain sanity and survive the night.
However the satirical elements are mostly of one-liners and some satirical elements including a preacher in this who believes that he can cure homosexuality with a gay converter machine. “Don’t shoot. I’m gay” is one of the punch lines which is probably perceived to be one of the highlights but just seems silly.
It also features irony of the Iraq war with paranoid redneck who isn’t afraid of using brutal methods in his interrogation of the possible cause to the zombie plague and of course a lot of melee combat featuring a lot gardening equipment, lots of well executed gore effects and a very cheesy ending.
However if you like zombie flicks with a twist of humor there is no reason why not to check this one out.
