    "AKA 47?"
    Yay (2)

    Nay (2)

    So, anyone with any taste in weaponry is bound to notice that, to match the spiffy new art style of our tools, there are a few..less-than-desirable names. One can only assume that a few people, who shall not be named, don't understand "Free Advertising" or copy-write laws to their fullest extent somewhere.

    Now, I'm not here to blame anyone, nor to gripe about this; No, I, and hopefully other contributors, are here to do what we can for our beloved Development team.

    So the question I pose is this : What are we looking for?

    Now, when I address the issue "AKA 47," this comes from the TVTropes community of which I am also a part of; for those who don't know, it can be described like so..

    "In many computer games and RPGs, you get real guns with fake names. They have the appearance and the characteristics of the real gun, but not the name. The reason appears to be avoiding potential lawsuits from the manufacturers of said firearms.."

    In lieu of other words, I'll simply post the poll above and wait for the results. From there, we can see if going into the Dead Frontier-esque terribly-obvious name-flaking they and several other games are guilty of. (FM P90? Really?)

    If not, we'll have to get the think-tank a-rolling along for some suggestions here.
    "Misericorde" - Mercy-giver. "Zyle" - The lack of the above. I love you guys <3 Pfft

    I think you misunderstood, LFD; maybe I should've made it clearer.
    The whole term for it was for cheap weapon name shifts to just narrowly avoid lawsuit.

    Yours don't entirely...match that. Haha.

    No, I got it the first time, Z77. I just think the whole name-flaking game is just silly from the get-go. If you're going to get silly, get good and silly. But the better solution would be for the devs to take the Damon Runyon approach.
    <blank stares. sigh>
    Damon Runyon was an American writer and journalist of the of the prohibition and depression eras. Think Scot Fitzgerald, Hemingway. He often wrote stories about mobsters and underworld figures. One day, one such person sent several large men to him with a message that DR had better not write anything embarrassing about the businessman in question. So Runyon gave his word that he wouldn't write anything emarrassing. He kept his word, by not writing anything at all. In a reputation-intensive industry, this businessman was seeing his rivals get a lot of free publicity, and he was becoming, if not unknown, at least an outsider. Finally he went himself to see Runyon and ask why R didn't put him into any of his stories. Runyon was blunt. If the businessman was so sensitive that he couldn't stand having a bit of fun poked at hime from time to time, he wasn't interesting enough to write about. Nobody wants to read about someone who takes himself too seriously.
    Getting to the bottom of this, it would be better for the game and the game industry if we didn't flake names. If the developers just said, "You're right. You don't want the general public to associate the name of your company and its products with effective weaponry. You don't want the free publicity. We're writing you out of the game. Have a nice day"
