Bunker deep under ground, with machines that create clean water and eatable food, with magazine of guns/tools/armors/WhateverYouPlease, with 999 automatic turrets outside, elevator, three generators, each working alone(If one gots destroyed, second one turns on, and then third one). Of course, there must be a hiper-ultra-mega-super secret passage to ANOTHER same bunker, and there must be three same passages like that. And above this bunker must be great base with laser walls, minigun turrets, and 8 helicopters if ill have to evacuate to one of 100 another same bases. |

those underground bunkers aren't really self sustaining. they just managed to delay the inevitable need for supplies. Honestly, based on the zombie books and movies (sans left 4 dead), i have yet to see zombies climb steep mountains so imma take a shot at living on those monasteries in Tibet like the batman did. I hear they have vegetation and water there. good enough for me. |

A nice island completely fortified and free of zombies, with a climate (and lan) that supports farming (at least corn, wheat, rice and some fruit trees), a water purifying system, underground facilities with reinforced armored doors and air purifying system, and a renewable source of energy (tidal, geothermal, solar, hydro, biomass, nuclear ... whatever). Mineral resources (iron, aluminum, and some), others energy-efficient farm animals (no cows) and that the island doesn't on an earthquake fault. And finally, a reliable staff trained to operate the equipment, soldiers, plus some other survivors (but reliable ones). I might also add material from entertainment (movies, video games and others), military weapons (in the event of a zombie invasion) , books (no newspapers, celebrity magazines) and maybe a laboratory (to research for a cure). Ps: Mostly translated by google. Let me know my grammatical errors, and the other too. Ps2: In the worst case, I'm happy if I have food, water, bathroom, some books and security. Maybe a wearpon, but I prefer not have to use it. Ps3: Yes, I know that the nuclear energy aren't renowable. Ps4: Maybe I forgot a hospital... |

Though the prospect of a 'deserted island' may sound like paradise from the zombie epidemic. Know that it's not impossible for zombies to end up on your island via the currents dragging them there. zombies just happen to float easily due to the gasses produced in the process of decomposition. its all a matter of time. |

If the zombies aren't eaten by sharks, fish, sea snakes, and other animals that I can't name in english; and If they aren't cruch for the underwater pressure; and If they manage to cruch the fortifications of the island, I still have the underground facilities, weapons, food and energy. Also soldiers, but wel... Anyway, is more likely that they sink in the water, cause those gases aren't eternal (actually, a body should be sink after 2 days at much, at least they have floats or are in a boat) |

If not overran; prisons, hospitals, and schools would make ideal safe houses. Hospitals are commonly one of the first settings to be lost to the dead though, but generators, several floors, and plenty of medical supplies are great advantages for hospitals. Prisons are built to keep people from getting out and that works both ways with keeping zombies out of it. Some states have correctional/medical facility hybrid designs for sick/injured inmates who can't be in general population prisons. Prisons also have generators, kitchens, a lot of doors that hard to get through when locked. The disadvantages would be if he original population is still there and whether or not they are undead or not. Also not having the keys/access to get around the prison is crucial. Schools are commonly used in zombie fiction as medical bases, make shift safe havens, and etc but like hospitals, are usually overran rather quickly. |

Wolfigor; So long as it has a backup generator that looks pretty impressive! A power failure would be disastrous otherwise. The drawbridge is awesome.

As you noticed there are a few questionable points (e.g. the turning hinges for the blocks covering the windows that are too "delicate" to maintain) but in general is an amazing design. I doubt if they have their own power generator, the house was not built thinking about zombies but for "extreme" security. I also agree with you the drawbridge is awesome.... so cool! |

I think you will find the hinges are sufficient. As upon reading the full description you find the flaw to the safehouse. the cuboid building is a concrete monolith, while its non-fixed components are composed of light steel trusses filled with mineral wool to ensure complete insulation. all exterior surfaces are clad with cement-bonded particleboards, then painted with a dark wood stain which resembles the shade and finish widely found in the neighbouring houses and barns. all moving walls are relatively easy to break through. A pick ax or chopping ax would make short work. If zombies were diligent and ever found a crack they would break through. Over all that thing is Awesome. I think I would use the basic design but make the bottom floor solid, and use impenetrable glass on the top. |

The best part of that particular place is the fast moving currents meaning the near 0% possibility of a Zed making it across. |

hmm... looks nice. but i'm more of the "adapting/mutating zombies" fan (i.e resident evil and left4dead) that thing won't last 10 minutes against a tank. |
