Lets bring on the zombies!

Okay, Love this topic, don't want to see the thread die.

I also base my plan on the likely scenario that the real killer in this situation would be the intiall chaos and confusion. The best way to stay alive would be to remove your self from the equation. Best bet would be to completely dissappear. I'm not big on the cellar idea because should your shelter be discovered, your stuck like chuck. If this was done propperly however, an underground compound would be ideal. You would be more likely to be overlooked by both the undead and looters alike than say someone in a large above ground fortification.

Worst case scenario, Your stuck somewhere too public, depending on unknown survivors for survival. There could be advantages to almost any situation, of course like the apartment building situation. It's public and would be hard to regulate, but you would also likely be surrounded by some kind of fence in a solid brick building where there are likely veterans and other gun owners living. Of course more people means more drama and more chance someone inside might be infected. It would be very hard to control a group this size, and it would only be a matter of time before someone did something stupid.

Presently, I live in a smallish 3 bedroom in a small town way to close to a major city. I'm in the process of moving (thankfully) so my new survival plan is now for that situation, A traileron it's on peice of land further from the city in an even smaller township. Smaller is of course better, and as it is more rural, there is the greater chance of hunter type gun owning neighbors(good and bad) A trailer would need to be fortified, but as it is smaller than a house, would take less work. The main point would be to be as low key as possible. Fortify all you like but if enough undead, or looters for that matter, want in your typical house or trailer, they'll get in.

Here is the essence of the plan:

1. elimnate things that draw attention to you
No shooting if you can help it, I have three handguns now and I'd rather not use them in this situation. The sound can carry for miles and I would not want several square miles worth of zombies randomly stumbling in my direction. Melee silent ranged weapons only when your'e in or around your home.
No unneeded lights exposed. most windows bored shut, and light discipline in effect in the rooms with exposed windows. No unneeded electicity should be used, generators are great, they are also noisy. And this would suck, but no cooking. If zed can smell, I don't want him my lasagna a mile away. Can goods and cheerios, no cooking except to boil warter which you would also want to do for when the sewage treatment plants are abandonned and filth starts getting in your drinking water.

2. Have it all before it happens
Don't wait untill the last moment to stock up like al those ***holes that storm into walmart the day before the hurricane. Have your emergency candels and first aid kits in your house now. Hey if zed never comes, something else could happen.
Have a cubbord full of stable foods that need no preparing. Fill the tub with water early, as well as pitchers and gallon jugs or whatever you have. Have more than a few boxes of ammo, which even if you don't use on zed, you may need if looters want what you've got.

3. Don't be a ***hole.
Don't take unneeded risks. You wontget shot looting supplies if you already have them. You want have to fight off hordes if you don't lure them to you with noise you didn't have to make. Don't be a drama king or queen, the worlds ending, what more drama do you need. Infighting will sap your morale and threaten your sanity.

I would ask my fellow soldiers to help me take over the jail down the street and ride it out there.

OK! i thought i had posted what i would do, but it seems i didnt...

I would head down to the nearby weapons factory(yeah, I got one not far from my home) and grab a few guns, a few crates of ammo, then i would head North, to Jotunheimen, a Norwegian mountain chain. Where theres plenty of "winter villages" containing few people(in the summer time) and many stores(all year around).

plus, its cold, so i would not have a problem with zombies at any rate, they would either freeze to the bone(unable to move) or freeze so much they can barely move. The bullets are mostly if any humans (with foul intentions) got close. I would also choose a big house with multiple levels, which should be easy to find, as many rich people have winter cabins in the mountains... So, as long as i manage to keep the cold out, i should be fine.

Have you considered, it is most likely to happen during work/school hours?
It's nice if you have a prepared home, but how do you get there in time?

To the islands. First I get my Rifle(M16A3) All of its accesorries and 3000 5.56x45mm NATO SS109 Rounds and some friends and head to An island.Zombies dont swim,and you cant get on an island from walking underwater.

Unless there are zombies on the island when you get there.

Fresh Zombie meat, I will kill them all.

@Data That's an excellent point. A lot of SHTF senarios I hear usually revolve around a person already being home and prepared. What if your caught off your gaurd? My plan would always be to make it home to loved ones and supplies, and though as of now I don't keep my primary carry in my vehicle, I do have my issued TA 50 (issued military gear) in the trunk of my car,including tactical vest,e tool (collapsable shovel) , kevlar helmet and other very usefull items. I haven't yet but plan on getting a first aid kit for me vehicle. I have been planning on getting my concealed license which would be ideal, giving me the best odds of being armed should it ever go down.

Could I just say 90% of the people would do this. Like those people who play shooting games and say "I'd own if I was in the army". No you wouldn't you'd probably try to reload your gun, drop your magazine and fall off a cliff somehow.

But no I envy you lot so much. You are mostly in America or other countries where weapon ownership in legal while here in the UK we've got nothing. My plan involves waiting a few days for the immediate outbreak to die down (in my bathroom or something) before setting out with a home made spear by tying a carving knife onto a metal pole. Then I would make my way to my local police station avoiding busy roads obviously while using my spear to kill zombies at a distance. While at the police station I would hope like hell somebody leaves the codes for the evidence storage room in a desk draw or something stupid so I can open it, raid it for all the confiscated weapons they own then just sit on top of my old school visiting shops now and again and also starting my own farm in the sports grounds. And if all this fails then I'd start my fire alarm alerting as many zombies as possible to my house while the gas over has been on for a few minutes before lighting a match.
^this all depends on if I don't fall over onto a dead zombie, accidentally ingest its blood and become the living dead... of course I would do this all within 3 minutes of an outbreak.

You know, i think your worse off than me, i mean, in norway we have more guns and ammo pr person, than any other country in the world (yes, i looked it up, its because we make guns and ammo, a lot of it, combined with having a ridicules low population) I mean, London is what... 10-15M people? Oslo, Norway's capital is 400 000 xD

In Nam, if there's an outbreak, there're a few things u should do:
1. Make yourself a durable, deadly weapon ( kitchen knife + metal pole = spear 4 exp)
2. Make a survival pack: A hiking backpack, lots of canned food, batteries, flashlight, some clean clothes, a spare CC wpn, some spare hardwares to repair the vehicle.
3. Use a small + no fuel using vehicle (bike) to roam a round for supplies, guns and food.
4. F4ck off to Paracel island if u can . (Currently in possesion of China)
And the survival rules:
1. KEEP CALM all the time. Run around robbing, mugging, fighting ONLY result in your death.
2 .Turn to another direction when u see >10 zeds.
3. ALWAYS look around for supplies, a gun and ammo.
4. Trust NO ONE
5. NEVER listen to the officials.
6. Stay 100% mobilized. Dont sleep after u cooked a meal or do something noisy.Barricade the place and hide your vehicle before u rest.
7. Have at least 2 or more BIG cans of water.
8. Travel lightest as u cant . Avoid carrying every thing u scavenged.
9. Save ammo.
10. Have at least ONE WEAPON in your bag. U can fight, u can live 2 see another day.

Love the ideas everyone, it'd be interesting to find out how long we'd last. People in remote locales would probably manage better than the rest.

generators are great, they are also noisy.

My friend runs his own business and he has about half a dozen servers that must stay up. In the event of a power outage his servers need to stay online so he set up a backup generator that he bought off the internet. It's about 2' x 1' x 8", it'll power his servers and basic office pc's/lights etc. This thing is super quiet. You can stand right over it and talk in a normal voice. Quieter than my car. We bought a generator years ago after hurricanes Erin/Opal hit us like 2 weeks apart, and that thing sounds like my car if I ripped the muffler off and redlined it. The new small/futuristic looking ones can be very quiet though. I'll probably get one myself one of these days.

Anyway, this thread is great. Keep up the replies, maybe we can pool our ideas and end up alive after the Zed apocalypse.

1. i live in norway, low population, few zombies
2. A nation of hunters, guns everywhere(plus the fact that norway makes guns and ammunition, a lot of it)
3. Im cynical, well not fully, but it seems im very good at ignoring feelings(that or missing them), and im very distrustful
4. i live next to the forest, easy get-away

Actually from what Ive seen you think North canada Is good however it is only good zombie wise not food wise reality is you wont be able to survive longer than 6 months( if you are lucky and know your herbs) up there how ever Vancouver Island is the size of Madagascar with a population of total 250K- Wich for the area is pretty good. Also on the Isle are approximately 10 gun shops 1 in 10 people own a gun of some kind for hunting and there it would be possible to hunt, fish and eat herbs unlike in the north.

I would do it like this:
First wait it out in my apartment for a few days, so that it calms down a little, so that most people had either escaped, hidden or turned to zombies. Then, i would fight my way to a big river that goes through my town, find some ship (theres lots of them), board it and drop anchor in the middle of the river. Safe from zombies, since they cant swim, but in city. I personally would not go to cellar, basements and other "one way out places", since if zombies find you, you cant go anywhere until they go away or you kill them.
Then i see 2 possibilities:
1. Stay in town, on river
Its possible that not every useful thing gets looted, gather food, water and all other essentials for surviving from town. I am just not sure that if there are a lot of fish in the river, but one extra source of food if there are.
2. Sail away, to sea
This option can be done at the start, or after first option is no longer possible. Gather all the water you can or find a way to purify dirty water (there are devices, or boil water as last resort if it isnt too polluted) and sail to some fish rich region and stay put. After that, who knows? Land on some isolated place?
Chances for infection and encounter with zombies would be reduced to minimum.
I have to say, i pretty like my idea
