This is a hard one.. From the classic Zed flicks Romero's Night of the Living Dead is high on the list for pure genius storytelling.. Low budget, genius dialogues and the suspense is at a all high top... not to mention the "WTF!!?!"-ending.. An ending-style that quickly became almost mandatory for every good Zed flick.. When's the last time you saw a Zed flick have a happy ending? The original Dawn of the Dead (Malls FTW!) and Lucio Fulci's Zombi are close seconds.. From the 'contemporary' Zed flicks I like ZombieLand a lot, even though the story is shallow and the antagonists seem to miss a certain depth I really really liked it.. But my most favourite contemporary Zed flicks must be Dead Alive and Shaun of the Dead for obvious reasons.. originality brings zed flicks to new hights |

My all time favourite has to be the original Dawn of the Dead. Depending on which cut you see of course, my personal favourite is the cut with the 2 zombie kids in the airport! Any film combining zombies and pie fights has got to be filled with win! Surprisingly the remake was also excellent, which unfortunately cannot be said for the remake of Day of the Dead That film should of burned faster than those ceiling climbing flamable zombies. |

My favourite zombie film, isn't necessarily the BEST zombie film, but it has a particularly fond memory for me. I went to see "Return of the Living Dead" - a George Romero style spoof film, many years ago, and it did a good job of combining humour with some genuinely tense scenes. So it gets to the point where the heroes are trapped inside a building, with a large glass window in it. The zombies are all over the place. The tension's being cranked up. People are on the edge of their seats... and then, a zombie unexpectedly bursts through the window and attacks someone! Now, no big deal, except behind me, was a woman and her boyfriend. And the tension had got to her more than everyone else did. When the zombie smashed in the window, and jumped on the guy inside, she SCREAMED! I don't mean a small squeak or a joke scream either, I mean a full-on "horror scream queen" scream! Now in a near-dark cinema, just add that unexpected scream to the ongoing and equally unexpected drama onscreen, and I think just about everyone in the place lost about 5 years off their life that day - then, about two hundred heads all snapped backwards at the same time to look at a VERY embarrassed woman, and an awful lot of amused (and sheepish) laughter filled the room! It was (and still is) the only time I ever recall anyone screaming during any horror film I've ever seen. Great fun though |

The Last Man on Earth. It has a point ( ??! ) but I really like the part when he sits in his chair sipping whiskey while the zombies outside are yelling " Mooorgaan...we're going to kill you.. Mooorgan " for God knows how many nights in a row. |

I really likes that film - of the various versions of "I am Omega" it's the only one that actually shows you people being rounded up before they're dead, taken in army trucks, and the bodies thrown into pits and burned, including children. The scene where Vincent Price tries to save his daughter from that fate - and fails - is about the grimmest thing in any of the film versions. Mind you, on the other hand, I always did wonder, why didn't he just move? None of the ZVT's (Zombie Vampire Things) seemed exactly Einsteinian, and he'd have got a decent nights sleep! (To say nothing of him going out and killing them all anyway - I mean, even at night, he could fight ten of them off at once, no problem, and Vincent Price is no Arnold Schwarzenegger! Heck, I'd have just stood there with a sword and done a little slice and dice! ) |

The original version of The Crazies (Romero - who else?) is one straaaaaaaaange film. I wonder how many other people noticed that the heavily-built scientist with zero people skills in The Crazies, is the same scientist who turns up in a TV transmission watched by the four main characters on a TV in the mall, in Dawn Of the Dead, made a number of years later? I always thought that was a nice continuation of that character's life. |

He's trying to live a normal life, as much as possible. Get up, go to work, kill some zombies, get home, listen to some music, relax, drink, survive, sleep. It's the only way not to go completely insane. |

Just saw The Crazies in theaters today. I'm not gonna spoil anything, but it was defiantly worth seeing. It could have used much more gore though. |

Shaun of the Dead hands down. It is funny but still has some gore and violence. I do enjoy the resident evil series, 28 days/weeks later (I consider it a zombie movie, and most of George's movies. |

from clasics Dawn of the dead (the original not the 2004) From newer ones Dead Set( Zeds + BigBro are just ... i mean the concept is good it is not Romero and the plot is simple but i think it is good to watck it) Zombie Animation: The City Of Rott (No not the guy with the walker saves the world this is just weird but i like this movie for the drawings. Plus it redicules all wide known zombie movies references. ) And of coursse COLIN for the zombie movie "the other way round"

I have never heard of many of these movies and shows everyone is talking about. Are they only local, or on special channels? Like are these movies ever in theaters? All the ones I see are major films like 28 Days Later, Quarantine, Dawn Of The Dead, stuff like that. |

I love all the classics you guys posted but I've gotta say one of my favorite is OneeChanbara This is because its so ridiculous... Girls+Bikinis+Katana+Zombies= well you can see for yourself. Oddly enough though they've even made games of it, which I do tend to avoid in the video game stores but it tires to taunt me.... Anyway It is a very odd series with girls, swords, zombies and cleavage (on the girls not the zombies) Its worth a watch for a good laugh and if your bored. |

Cemetery man was slightly odd, but a gratifying movie to watch. Being the guy who has to stay up every night and re-killing those who have already died, although there were some good zombies, but the main guys retarded friend was way more creepy than the zombies. Mortuary was a good parasitical one. Although I saw another movie like it, but instead of being a plant like thing they were slugs and they both died by salt. The one I can't remember made more sense than Mortuary though. The Mad was freaking....I don't know left me sort of disgusted and a little wtf... Getting eaten by slabs of meat? It's more a comedy really. Resident Evil was okay, but they were just like super milking it with the last one. Zombieland was freaking hilarious! There's one movie I really want to see. It's called Red Lips are for eating flesh. It's from a self sufficient, social and speech capable zombies point of view and tells of the last and dying humans. Sounds very interesting. |

1. Shaun of the Dead (because it takes the best from every zombie movie ever made and pokes fun at it) 2. Army of Darkness (does it even really count?) 3. 28 Days Later (putting fast zombies on the screens) 4. Dawn of the Dead (I own and enjoy both equally which may sound like blasphemy, but it's the truth) 5. Zombie Land (much like Shaun of the Dead... but zombies can climb fences!?!? Uh oh... must rethink defense strategy) 6. Night of the Living Dead (the 90's remake had Tony Todd in it)

Hm, let me see... Wasting Away (2007) - movie from the viewpoint of the zombies, comedy Fido (2006) - zombies as cheap labour, 70s atmosphere Undead (2003) - not quite serious, but with a nice twist and pretty cool characters Huh, don't recall any serious films other than the ones posted already. |

28 days later and 28 weeks later they are 2 of the most brilliant ones. in my opinion pretty realistic and intense, though I am aware that some people would complain that the "Zombies" are not the old-fashion-slow-walking-moaning-undead. they are scary! oh, and Shaun of the dead is great too, however, go and watch Dawn of the dead first! |

wayyyyy back when I was 17 and a freshman at uni, I went to see a $2 double feature. The first was NOTL, which to this day remains my favourite zed flick. (The other was Deep Throat, a love story which moved me in oh so many ways)
I've caught the remake of NOTL, and it's pretty good. Very true to Romero's original vision, IMHO. Giving it a different plot twist was cool too. Why remake a movie unless you're going to add something new?
Since then, I've seen most of the others, and I don't rate many very highly. They all tend to seem the same, after awhile.
I like Shaun OTD, not only for its humour but also for preserving Romero's first and lasting observation: that people who are just going through the motions in their lives are little different from the living dead.
OK, Romero makes that point most clearly in his Dawn OTD, with the mindless hordes in the shopping mall. Point taken.
I kind of like the 2004 remake of DawnOTD though, even though they commit the sacrilige of having hyper-active zombies. Get down with the sickness indeed. The survivors must not only deal with the external threat of the zeds, but also the internal threats to their own humanity. In that vein , The Mist (taken from a Stephen King story by the same title) is also worth seeing. The monsters without are scary, but the monsters within are closer. But that's not a zed film.
I also like 28 days later, although it really gets away from the zombie film premise. I'm not so fond of the sequel, 28 weeks later. It seems like the whole movie was written to justify the single plot twist,
- Spoiler: show
-
that the kid who escapes has beomce a carrier. Well that's a bit harsh, I'll admit.

Either Night of the Living Dead or Return of the Living Dead. Night of the Living Dead(1993 version) is something I can watch over and over again. Return of the Living Dead was the first zombie flick I'd ever watched and my older brother swore to God that it was based on real events. That scared the crap out of me and my little brother. It probably even started my morbid obsession with zombies. |
