Now, I personally have nothing against clans. But speaking for myself, I enjoy playing games like this as a "lone wolf" - and I was wondering how people such as myself in the long term would be catered to in the game. If the game is aimed at building clans, would lone wolf types be at a tactical disadvantage? Find it impossible to kill zombies because the clans had mopped them all up? Be barred from safehouses "unless you're a member"?

Or would there be (as I hope) some fringe benefits to being a lone wolf? After all, if you're surviving out there on your own, with no backup, you've GOT to be tough, and street savvy. A boost to your smarts skills, for example, so that people are a little friendlier, and guns a little cheaper to buy. Or perhaps slightly faster levelling up of your skills - after all, you can't rely on clans to kill that approaching zombie! - or the occasional "bonus boost" to skills, that lasts "x" amount of time. Or then again, only the strongest survive, so something like a slightly longer amount of SP than clans (500 say, as opposed to 480), would seem fair. (Needless to say, any advantage would automatically be stripped from you, if you chose to join a clan!)

I'm just making sure that the clan aspect of the game, doesn't detract from those currently - and in future - who like the idea of being a lone survivor, living on his/her wits and skills in a city full of zombies...

I think once the game gets closer to completion, there will be more for solo people to do. Their isn't much at the moment for clans either. But I don't see players who are not in a clan as being doomed. There are many advantages I can think of from not being in a clan. You got neutral respect from al players. You are not gonna get attacked or killed because of the clan your in (if pvp allows) you get to keep everything you find to yourself, cash loot ect. But, as for giving more stats or anything, I'd have to say negative. I dont think someone running around a zombie infested city by themselves should get a reward. You should always have a buddy.

Maybe ZP can add a (Group) System. Not like a party, but its sorta like a clan. You got to join, or get invited. They are waaay smaller though, and would have a more basic layout. But they would be for players who don't want to be in a huge clan, but want to run around with one or two of their real life friends. They could be a Group.

The latter part, where several people run around in a small group, sounds like a clan in all but name - just a smaller one.

I guess I like the idea of balance for lone wolf players as well as clan fans. Minor "lone wolf only" advantages would be a nice way of saying "okay, you're not in a clan, but we recognise you're a survivor and should get some minor gains to your character for staying alive single handedly."

Or to put it another way, someone living in the wilderness for years on nothing more than his wits and whatever he can find, is likely to be at least a little fitter, faster, smarter and stronger than average, than say your average hunter in a large bunch of hunters, all armed to the teeth and living in a comfortable log cabin. Reasonably, a slight increase to SP, agility, and CCQ skills would add balance to the lone wolf side of things - maybe starting out with 12 on those, rather than 10, or levelling them slightly faster. All advantages would immediately be reset of course, if the player then joins a clan, so no sneaky "build up your character as a lone wolf, then join a clan" cheats.

I like the sound of groups,as the Originals are usually doing background work.I'd still like to team up for some fun.

I don't see the disadvantage or the advantage to being a lone wolf as opposed to being in a clan, and vice versa. At the moment, clans don't seem to have a lot of functionality.

Yes, but try to think of it in real life perspective. Do you want to bed down at night in a heavily armored warehouse with 27 other survivors, 40+ rifles, 15+ handguns, mines surrounding the place, claymores, you got flood light system to add to % to hit.

Or do you sleep in a dumpster, by yourself, and hope to wake up in the morning.

There are very realistic ways a person could survive alone. I am not saying it is impossible. And if the PVP is open (it should be xD) then players in that huge warehouse will have that fear of one of those people losing their mind, or being a traitor, or spy. So there are pros and cons for each. If you look at it in a real life situation style, you can grip the functionality of the clan features more. What will the clan mates need to do most? What are they going to have problems with most often? Stuff like this.

From a pure game perspective, clans don't seem to do much other than give you a nice tag. I think in-game communication and interaction features would have to be improved in order for there to be any advantage/disadvantage. PvP could give clans a few advantages/disadvantages as well, depending on how it's implemented. It would be rather unusual (compared to other games) if you could attack and kill clanmates openly and without warning, and while still human. But yes, in real life, the attacks from other people around you would be a problem. Also, the risk that someone would bring the group down or turn into a zombie would also be a problem. There are advantages, but I don't want to rant too long on it...

At this point in the game, there is simply no necessity to be a member of any clan or group. Unless you want to socialize and such.

I, however, do not agree with the whole "be a "lone wolf" get more stats" idea.

Ok look I am a clan leader. It's me and 5 other people. In real life I would want to be with other people. You get shot your group can heal you. They would have your back. That's basically the same with clans. You have a safe place to hide. And a better chance at surviving. If you think about it even if your not in a clan you already are. You get downed u have 2 choices lose 50 sp and stand up OR wait to be revived by another person. When you first start you are already in a clan. The clan of survivers. Clan or "Lone Wolf" we are all survivers and relliy on each other.
I can feel it growing strong, The wolf inside of me. It's trying to break free.

Having the right companions can get you out of trouble. Having the wrong ones can get you dead. Companions are not automatically a good thing.

PS: They sure are handy to trip in a desperate situation though

PPS: Unless they trip you first

Are you aware that the last post here was a year ago? (well, 330~ days) Poor tread, zombified so young....

In game perspective, it's irrelevant if you are or not in a clan for being rescue. Anyone can help you if want.
Their main advantage are the training facilities (and meet some people, but this is more complicated) (Yep, I almost never use the living quarter or the sickbay) and sometimes their lockers (I use them for barricade stuff)

I use the sick bay every time I want to quick level. I just go outside my safehouse and fight every zed group in a 3X3 or 9X9 pattern using the sickbay to heal when needed. I hoard food items in the lockers, along with ammo. To me the most important feature of the safehouse is the training facilities though.

Yes, you dont have to use your own time and energy and resources and money to build the safehouse up. Established clans already have em!
